The Detroit Tigers dropped a 3-2 game to the Kansas City Royals after Nick Loftin delivered the go-ahead blow in the top of the ninth inning. Loftin connected on a 94-mph pitch from James Waguespack, giving Kansas City the late edge in a tightly contested matchup.
Detroit's biggest issue was familiar: not enough offense. After managing to get by with limited scoring the night before, the Tigers could not do it again on Saturday. Two runs kept them close, but it was not enough to overcome the Royals once the game swung in the final inning.
For much of the night, the Tigers stayed within reach and had a chance to come away with another narrow win. Instead, the late hit by Loftin changed the result and left Detroit chasing the game in the bottom half.
The 3-2 loss underscored how thin the margin can be when the Tigers are not generating much at the plate. In a one-run game against a division opponent, Detroit had little room for error, and the Royals took advantage of it late.
