Police in Jaipur have registered an FIR after a teenager was allegedly tricked by an Instagram friend into stealing family jewellery worth about Rs 4 lakh. According to the initial complaint, the jewellery was taken as part of what turned out to be a fake gold loan plan.
The case centres on an online friendship that investigators believe was used to manipulate the teen. The accused allegedly convinced the teenager to remove valuables from home by presenting the scheme as a gold loan arrangement, but the promise was reportedly fraudulent.
After the jewellery went missing and the circumstances emerged, the family approached police, leading to the FIR. Officers are now searching for the accused and examining how the contact developed on Instagram.
The incident has drawn attention to the risks linked to online relationships and financial deception involving young users. It also underlines how social media contact can move quickly from casual conversation to serious criminal allegations.
