Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) said on Saturday that it is ending its 37-day protest after its demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was met. The group also said the Centre accepted its other demands, bringing a temporary close to the standoff.
According to the announcement, CJP had placed a five-point demand charter before the government during the agitation. With Pradhan's exit seen as the central demand, the party described the latest decision as a major outcome of the protest.
The party indicated that discussions with the government are not over. It said the next round of talks will take place after four weeks, suggesting that follow-up on the remaining demands will continue through further negotiations.
The end of the protest marks a significant political development after more than a month of demonstrations. Attention will now shift to how the Centre acts on the assurances given and what emerges from the next meeting between both sides.
