UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon are increasing support efforts as conditions improve and more families head back to their homes. With violence reported to have fallen significantly since mid-June, their work has shifted back toward key duties tied to civilian stability and recovery.
Those duties include helping safeguard humanitarian assistance and supporting the restoration of critical infrastructure. The renewed focus reflects a changing situation on the ground, where immediate security pressures appear to have eased enough for peacekeepers to resume functions that directly affect daily life.
The return of residents is an important sign of that change, but it also brings fresh needs. Families going back to their communities often depend on reliable aid access, basic services and repaired infrastructure, making peacekeeper support an important part of the broader recovery effort.
While the situation remains sensitive, the reduced level of violence has allowed a clearer emphasis on practical assistance and stabilization. In south Lebanon, that means helping create conditions in which returning civilians can begin to rebuild their routines with greater safety and access to essential support.
