India’s box office posted a strong first half, with gross collections rising 10 per cent year on year to ₹6,398 crore in the January-June period. The total marks the highest-grossing first half recorded for the domestic theatrical market.
The growth suggests steady audience spending at cinemas in the opening six months of the year. The latest figure also places the period ahead of the corresponding stretch last year, reinforcing a positive trend for theatrical releases.
A major share of the overall revenue came from Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which emerged as the biggest hit of the year so far. The film is reported to have earned about ₹1,277 crore in gross collections, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the total box office haul in the first half.
The performance of the market underlines how a few large titles can significantly lift industry totals. With the first six months already setting a record, attention is likely to remain on whether the momentum can continue through the rest of the year.
