Formula 1 is set to return to Malaysia for the first time in nine years after the Bahrain Grand Prix was reassigned to Sepang. The race is scheduled for Oct. 4, bringing the championship back to a circuit that had dropped off the calendar.
Under the revised plan, the Sepang round would take place between the races in Azerbaijan and Singapore. That places Malaysia into a key slot in the autumn stretch of the Formula 1 season.
The change is still subject to approval from the FIA's world motor sport council. If cleared, Sepang will officially host the event in place of the original Bahrain stop, creating one of the most notable calendar adjustments of the year.
For Formula 1 fans, the move means a rare return to a familiar venue with strong links to the sport's recent history. Sepang's reappearance also gives Malaysia an unexpected place back on the schedule after a long absence.
