Malaysia is set to stage an October grand prix as a replacement for the Bahrain race that was called off earlier in the season. The event will be held at the Sepang circuit near Kuala Lumpur, giving the Formula 1 schedule an alternative venue after Bahrain was unable to host its round.
The move means Malaysia will effectively take on an additional role in the calendar on behalf of Bahrain. Organisers turned to Sepang after the Gulf state's race was lost because of the conflict affecting the Middle East at the time.
Sepang is already a well-known stop for top-level motorsport, making it a practical option for a rearranged grand prix. Hosting a Bahrain replacement race in Malaysia allows the season to keep an October event in place rather than leaving a gap on the schedule.
For fans and teams, the decision shifts attention to Malaysia as the stand-in venue for a race originally planned for Bahrain. With Sepang chosen for the replacement, the postponed Bahrain GP will instead be represented by a grand prix in Malaysia later in the year.
