A trader from Isanpur in Ahmedabad reportedly lost Rs 1.86 lakh after downloading a fake Bank of India KYC application. The victim, described as a tempo owner, is said to have installed the APK file after receiving it on WhatsApp.

According to the brief report, the app was presented as a Bank of India KYC update. After the installation, 14 unauthorised transactions allegedly took place, leading to the loss of nearly Rs 1.9 lakh from the trader’s account.

The case highlights a common cyber fraud pattern in which scammers circulate unofficial APK files through messaging platforms and disguise them as banking or KYC tools. Once installed, such apps can be used to gain access to sensitive financial information or enable fraudulent activity.

The Ahmedabad incident adds to growing concern over fake banking apps and WhatsApp-based scams. Users are generally advised to avoid installing APK files received from unknown or unverified sources, especially when they claim to be linked to bank KYC or account verification.
