Aluminium capacitor prices are moving higher across China, Japan and Taiwan in an uncommon shift for the sector. The increases are being linked to stronger demand tied to AI hardware and to rising costs for aluminium foil, an important raw material in capacitor production.

The pressure appears to be strongest in higher-end components used in AI-related applications, where supply is tightening. As demand for advanced electronics grows, manufacturers are facing a more difficult balance between available capacity and the need to serve customers looking for premium parts.

At the same time, higher raw material expenses are squeezing profitability. Major suppliers in the three markets are responding with price increases aimed at protecting margins rather than absorbing all of the added cost.

The development points to a broader effect from the AI boom beyond chips alone. It suggests that supporting components such as aluminium capacitors are also feeling supply-chain strain, with pricing now reflecting both material inflation and competition for top-tier parts.
