Snapchat is introducing a new music-sharing feature called Now Playing that shows what users are listening to in real time. The update appears in Snap Map and launches with Spotify support, adding a new way for friends to discover each other’s music activity inside the app.

With Now Playing, users can link their Spotify accounts to Snapchat and decide who is able to view their listening status. That privacy control is a key part of the feature, as Snapchat is giving people the option to choose how broadly their music activity is shared.

The update also lets users see what their friends are listening to as it happens. By bringing live listening information into Snap Map, Snapchat is expanding the map beyond location and social presence into entertainment sharing.

Starting with Spotify suggests Snapchat is building this feature around streaming integrations, with music discovery as the main focus. For users who already use Snap Map to keep up with friends, Now Playing adds another real-time layer to how they connect on the platform.
