Meta is expanding Meta AI inside Threads direct messages to users around the world. Starting today, the company says everyone on Threads will be able to use the assistant in private, one-on-one conversations inside DMs.
The update lets people send posts, images, links and videos to Meta AI and continue the chat with follow-up questions. That means Threads users can explore topics or get more context on shared content without moving the conversation into the public feed.
The rollout focuses on private messaging, but the broader Meta AI presence on Threads is still evolving. According to the available details, Meta AI can also appear in public feeds in five test countries. In those cases, users reportedly cannot block the feature, though they can mute it.
By bringing Meta AI into Threads DMs globally, Meta is adding another built-in AI tool directly to a social app people already use for sharing and discussion. The move gives Threads users a private way to interact with the assistant while the company continues testing how AI shows up more visibly across the platform.
