Nick Greenwood made a century for Jersey, but his innings was not enough to prevent defeat against the United Arab Emirates in the first of their two 50-over matches at Grainville. The home side were beaten by seven wickets in what was reported as the third game of a four-match schedule.
Greenwood’s hundred gave Jersey a major contribution with the bat and was the standout individual performance of the match for the hosts. However, UAE were able to stay on top of the contest overall and completed a comfortable chase with wickets in hand.
The result gives the visitors the early edge in the pair of 50-over fixtures between the teams. For Jersey, the loss will be disappointing given Greenwood’s landmark innings, which could not be turned into a winning total.
Attention now turns to the second 50-over game, where Jersey will try to respond after the setback at Grainville. UAE, meanwhile, will look to carry their momentum forward after securing a seven-wicket win.
