The development arrives at a time when platform exclusives and digital ownership are being debated more heavily by players. By linking an Xbox store purchase to PC access for Ubisoft titles, Microsoft and Ubisoft seem to be pushing a more connected digital model that makes one purchase work across more than one platform.
At the same time, the trimmed report highlights an important limitation: online DRM remains part of the experience. That means the added convenience of cross-platform access may still come with the usual concerns around authentication, account ties, and how much control buyers really have over digital games.
