Lancaster Country Day School is asking a federal court to throw out a lawsuit tied to AI-generated deepfake images allegedly created by two former students. According to the filing, the school argues it should not be held legally responsible for the criminal acts described in the case.
The lawsuit claims the school failed to protect 59 female students from serious and continuing harm after roughly 350 fake nude images were made. The complaint frames the issue as a breakdown in student protection, while the school’s motion seeks dismissal of those claims.
At the center of the dispute is whether Lancaster Country Day had a legal duty that would make it liable for the actions of the two former students. The school’s attorneys contend the federal case should not move forward on that basis.
The filing adds another legal test to the growing number of cases involving AI deepfakes, student safety and institutional responsibility. For now, the court will decide whether the claims against Lancaster Country Day can proceed or should be dismissed.
