A senior Syrian official has said the border crossing between Nusaybin in Türkiye’s southeastern Mardin province and Qamishli in northeastern Syria is expected to reopen within three months. The development would restore movement on an important route linking the two neighboring areas.
According to the report, the crossing was formerly under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF. Its planned reopening points to a broader shift in administration and border management in the region, although no detailed timetable beyond the three-month expectation was outlined.
The Nusaybin-Qamishli gate has long been seen as a strategically important crossing because of its location between southeastern Türkiye and Syria’s Hasakah region. If reopened as planned, it could ease cross-border travel and support the flow of goods and other exchanges between communities on both sides.
For now, the announcement signals intent rather than an immediate restart of operations. Further technical, security and administrative steps are likely to be needed before the crossing becomes fully operational again.
