BMW has introduced the iX5 Long Wheelbase in China, presenting it as a standalone electric SUV created specifically for the local market. The model is scheduled for an official launch in 2027 and signals BMW’s continued focus on tailoring premium EVs to regional demand.
The new BMW iX5 LWB stands out with its stretched dimensions, which are aimed at delivering more interior room than the standard version. That long-wheelbase layout is especially important in China’s luxury SUV segment, where rear-seat comfort is often a major selling point.
BMW is also highlighting upgraded cabin technology for the China-only iX5 LWB. Among the key features mentioned is a theater-style screen, pointing to a stronger emphasis on rear passenger entertainment and a more upscale in-car experience.
Another major talking point is the claimed 620-mile driving range, which positions the BMW iX5 LWB as a highly ambitious electric SUV on paper. With added space, new in-car tech, and a market-specific design, the iX5 LWB appears to be part of BMW’s broader push to strengthen its EV lineup in China ahead of its 2027 arrival.
