For now, the key uncertainty is FIFA’s approach to future editions. Germany’s timeline appears to depend on whether the governing body keeps its current rules in place or makes adjustments that would allow a 2038 push instead of waiting for 2042.
The DFB’s position signals clear interest rather than a final outcome. Even so, Germany has now placed itself back in the conversation over future World Cup hosts, with both 2042 and a possible 2038 bid on the table.
