The United States has designated two Iranian entities and certain vessels over activities tied to the Strait of Hormuz, according to the announcement on Wednesday. The move names the Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company and the Hormuz Safe Marine Services Authority.
US officials said the two groups are backed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC. Washington described the issue as a coercive marine “insurance” scheme connected to shipping activity in and around the strategically important waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most closely watched maritime routes, so any US action involving vessels, shipping services, or insurance-related operations can draw broader attention. By targeting these entities, the United States is signaling continued scrutiny of networks it says support Iranian pressure tactics at sea.
The designation adds fresh pressure on organizations and maritime assets linked to the case, especially where international shipping and financial dealings are involved. It also highlights the US focus on IRGC-connected activity in the Gulf and the wider region.
