Apple’s push to bring driver’s licenses to the iPhone appears to be nearing another expansion. Based on the latest signs, a 15th US state could soon support adding a digital version of a driver’s license to an iPhone.
The feature is being introduced gradually rather than nationwide all at once. Apple currently lists 14 states where some level of support for digital driver’s licenses or state IDs is available, and the newest development suggests that number may increase before long.
A wider rollout would mark another step in Apple’s effort to make the iPhone a place for official identification, not just payments and boarding passes. For users in supported states, the appeal is the ability to keep a digital form of ID on the device instead of relying only on a physical card.
Even so, availability still depends on individual states adopting the system, so expansion has moved at a measured pace. If this next launch goes ahead, it would give Apple’s digital ID feature a presence in 15 states, showing continued momentum for mobile identification in the US.
