Microsoft has released a new update for its Xbox backwards compatibility effort on PC, targeting the early issues seen in the first rollout for original Xbox games. The patch appears to address many of the problems identified during initial hands-on testing, suggesting the company is moving quickly to improve the feature.
The programme itself is aimed at bringing classic original Xbox titles to PC through a new compatibility layer. That concept has drawn interest because it could expand access to older Xbox games beyond console hardware, but the first version reportedly had enough technical problems to raise concerns about readiness.
After the latest patch, most of those early issues are said to be fixed, which is an encouraging sign for the future of Xbox backwards compatibility on PC. Even so, the update does not solve everything. Frame pacing problems still remain, and other limitations continue to affect the overall experience.
That means the feature is improving, but it is not yet a complete answer for playing original Xbox games on PC at a consistently polished level. The latest update shows progress, while also making clear that Microsoft still has technical work to do before the programme reaches its full potential.
