Formula 1 says it is prepared to finish the 2025 season in Europe if the planned closing races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi cannot be staged in the Middle East. The update came from F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali, who confirmed the sport has set a decision point in mid-September.
The possible change is tied to uncertainty created by the war involving Iran, which has raised questions over whether the final events on the calendar can go ahead as scheduled. Rather than wait until the last moment, Formula 1 appears to be putting a backup plan in place to protect the end of the season.
If the Qatar and Abu Dhabi rounds become unworkable, European venues would be used instead to conclude the championship. That would allow the series to keep the season on track while avoiding a late scramble over travel, logistics and event operations.
For now, the Middle East races have not been ruled out, but the mid-September deadline gives Formula 1 a clear window to make its final call. The decision will shape how the championship wraps up and whether the last part of the calendar stays in the Gulf or shifts back to Europe.
