Owlcat Games appears to be entering a much bigger phase after the success of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. The developer, which first built its name with Pathfinder: Kingmaker, is now looking beyond its recent hit and aiming to raise the bar again with whatever comes next.

The studio’s path has been steady but ambitious. It started as a smaller team with strong experience, then broke through in 2018 with Pathfinder: Kingmaker. That debut gave Owlcat a foundation in story-heavy role-playing games and helped establish it as a developer to watch in the RPG space.

Rogue Trader pushed that reputation further. With the game being described as one of the strongest Warhammer 40,000 titles, Owlcat now has momentum in both fantasy and science-fiction RPGs. That puts extra attention on the studio’s next project, especially as expectations rise after two well-known franchises helped expand its audience.

A major sign of that shift is the company’s size. Owlcat has reportedly grown to around 600 people, showing how much larger its ambitions have become. The next challenge will be turning that scale into another standout release while maintaining the strengths that helped Pathfinder and Rogue Trader connect with players.
