The Israel Defense Forces said it destroyed a network of tunnels in the Beaufort area of southern Lebanon in an operation carried out under directives from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.
Israeli officials said the underground system was linked to Hezbollah and described it as part of the group’s infrastructure in the area. The military said the demolition used roughly 700 tons of explosives, underscoring the scale of the operation.
The announcement places renewed attention on the Beaufort region, a strategic area in southern Lebanon that has long been associated with armed activity and cross-border security concerns. Israeli leaders presented the tunnel destruction as a move against militant capabilities near the frontier.
