Senate Republicans have blocked another effort to advance a resolution directing President Trump to end the war in Iran. The vote fell short on Thursday, preventing the measure from moving forward in the chamber.
The outcome drew added attention because Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman helped Republicans defeat the push. According to the vote breakdown described in the report, only three Republicans crossed party lines to support advancing the resolution: Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Rand Paul of Kentucky.
That left Democrats without enough backing to move the proposal ahead. The failed vote highlights how difficult it remains for opponents of the administration’s Iran policy to build a bipartisan coalition in the Senate, even with some Republican support.
The repeat defeat also underscores a broader divide in Washington over how much authority Congress should assert over U.S. military action involving Iran. For now, the Senate has once again declined to advance a measure that would have formally pressed Trump to bring the conflict to an end.
