India's search for a first Commonwealth Games medal in men's shot put went on in Glasgow, where Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill missed the podium in the final on Thursday.
Asian Games champion Toor finished fifth after a hard-fought effort, while Gill ended seventh in the same event. The two Indian throwers stayed in contention but could not break into the medal places.
The result means India's long wait for a maiden Commonwealth Games medal in men's shot put continues. With Toor arriving as one of the country's better-known names in the discipline, there had been interest in whether he could convert his past success into a CWG podium finish.
Instead, the final ended without a breakthrough for India in the event. Even so, Toor and Gill's performances kept India represented deep into the competition, though the medals remained just out of reach in Glasgow.
