CSCC, an affiliate of China Steel Corporation, has developed 6N high-purity isotropic graphite blocks for silicon carbide crystal growth crucibles used in 8-inch and 12-inch production. The move is aimed at supporting Taiwan’s supply chain as demand linked to AI data center infrastructure continues to rise.
The development focuses on a key upstream material used in SiC manufacturing. By producing graphite blocks for crystal growth crucibles locally, CSCC is seeking to help Taiwan-based manufacturers reduce their dependence on overseas suppliers for an important part of the production process.
Silicon carbide has become increasingly important in advanced electronics and power-related applications, and supply chain security is drawing more attention as AI-related investment expands. Against that backdrop, localizing critical materials could give Taiwan manufacturers more flexibility and potentially improve resilience when sourcing specialized components.
CSCC’s work highlights a broader push to strengthen Taiwan’s technology and industrial base through domestic materials development. While the company’s announcement centers on crucibles and graphite blocks, the larger goal is to reinforce the ecosystem that supports semiconductor and AI data center growth.
