Russia’s ban from international hockey has been extended through the May 2027 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Germany. The decision was made by the International Ice Hockey Federation council, keeping Russia out of major men’s international competition for longer.
The IIHF had already barred Russia from international hockey shortly after the country’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. With this latest move, that suspension will remain in place for several more seasons under the federation’s control.
The extension means Russia will not take part in the 2027 men’s world championship in Germany. The federation said the ruling was tied to ongoing concerns, continuing the stance it has maintained since the ban was first introduced.
The decision is another significant marker in the long-running separation of Russia from international ice hockey. For now, the country’s absence from IIHF competition will continue through one of the sport’s biggest annual tournaments.
