India has strongly raised its concerns with Ukraine over attacks in the Black Sea that have affected commercial shipping and Indian crew members. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said such attacks on merchant vessels and Indian seafarers are unacceptable.
Jaishankar conveyed India’s position to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in a direct conversation. According to the available details, India made clear that attacks on commercial shipping in the Black Sea, by any side, cannot be justified when civilian maritime traffic and foreign nationals are at risk.
The diplomatic exchange came after the killing of an Indian seafarer, which has sharpened India’s response. The incident has drawn attention to the dangers faced by merchant sailors operating in waters touched by the wider conflict.
India’s message highlights two priorities: the safety of its nationals working at sea and the protection of commercial shipping routes. The latest contact between New Delhi and Kyiv shows the issue has become an urgent matter in India’s engagement over the Black Sea situation.
