Octopuses are already famous for doing things that seem surprisingly advanced for an invertebrate, from using tools to opening jars. Their nervous systems are also unusually complex, with a neuron count often compared to that of a small primate. Now, researchers at Harvard say the animals may stand out in another way as well: at the level of basic cell biology.
According to the report, the scientists identified a mysterious cellular distinction in some octopuses, pointing to an unusual trait embedded in their core biology.
