Singapore’s LTA is studying whether a higher-capacity Bus Rapid Transit system could be introduced in Tuas South, with the project also seen as a possible model for wider use across the island in future.
According to the report, the agency is reviewing Bus Rapid Transit networks used in cities including Shanghai, Seoul and Curitiba. The aim is to assess which type of system would best suit Tuas South, rather than adopting a single overseas model without changes.
The study includes different vehicle formats, from standard single buses to longer articulated buses designed to carry more passengers. That suggests the evaluation is focused not only on route design, but also on how bus size and system layout could improve capacity and operations in the area.
If a suitable approach is identified for Tuas South, the findings could help shape how Bus Rapid Transit is used more broadly in Singapore. For now, LTA’s work appears to be centered on comparing global examples and determining what kind of higher-capacity bus system would be most practical locally.
