Finnish publisher WickWick has launched the fourth title in its War and Peace picture book series for children. Announced from Helsinki, the new release continues the company’s effort to present difficult themes to young readers through stories shaped around compassion, history and displacement.
The latest book is tied to author Tuula Pere’s idea of a “diplomacy of the heart,” linking a true story from the Winter War with the reality of a Syrian refugee camp in Jordan. By bringing those two settings together, the project appears to frame war and migration in a way children can approach without losing sight of the human cost.
The launch comes at a time when conflicts around the world are forcing more families from their homes. In that context, WickWick’s series positions picture books as a way to help children understand fear, loss and hope through age-appropriate storytelling rather than abstract headlines.
With this fourth installment, the War and Peace series expands its focus from historical memory to present-day displacement, while keeping children at the center of the reading experience. The release also highlights how a small Finnish publisher is using illustrated books to explore global issues through personal, accessible narratives.
