The New London-Spicer Twins claimed the County Line League championship on Friday night, edging Starbuck 8-7 in Paynesville. The one-run result capped a closely contested amateur baseball matchup and gave NLS the league crown.
New London-Spicer took control early by scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. That fast start put Starbuck on the defensive, but the game did not stay one-sided for long.
By the fifth inning, Starbuck had battled back to even the score at 6-6, turning the championship game into a tense finish. The Twins responded well enough to move back in front, then protected that narrow margin the rest of the way.
In the end, NLS did just enough to close out the 8-7 victory and secure the County Line League championship. The result reflected both the Twins' early offensive push and their ability to hold steady after Starbuck erased the initial deficit.
