A UK court has jailed two Nigerians and another man over a cryptocurrency fraud scheme that stripped eight victims of more than £4 million. The case centers on a scam in which the group posed as police officers, using that false identity to gain victims’ trust and carry out the theft.

The fraud highlights how criminals are increasingly blending traditional impersonation tactics with digital asset crime. By presenting themselves as law enforcement, the offenders were able to pressure or mislead victims before moving funds linked to cryptocurrency.

Authorities said the scheme caused major financial losses, with the total taken exceeding £4 million. The sentencing marks a significant outcome in a case involving cross-cutting issues of cyber-enabled fraud, identity deception and crypto-related theft.

The case also underlines the risks facing people targeted by convincing scams tied to digital finance. As cryptocurrency use grows, investigators and courts are continuing to treat impersonation-led frauds as serious offenses, especially when victims suffer heavy losses.
