Russia is widening its cryptocurrency mining crackdown by adding Moscow and other areas to a long-running ban that will stretch into the next decade. According to the government decision, the new restrictions are scheduled to begin on Aug. 15, 2026, and stay in force through Dec. 31, 2032.
The measure was approved under Russia’s Resolution No. 936, which expands the country’s existing limits on crypto mining. The latest step signals that authorities are not only keeping curbs in place but also extending them to the capital and additional regions.
For the crypto sector, the headline issue is the timeline. A ban lasting from 2026 to 2032 gives miners, infrastructure operators and related businesses a clear but strict regulatory window to plan around. It also reinforces the message that Russia is taking a more restrictive approach to where cryptocurrency mining can operate.
While the trimmed report does not detail every affected location, the inclusion of Moscow makes the policy especially notable. As the resolution comes into effect, Russia’s crypto mining landscape is set to face broader geographic limits and a lengthy period of tighter control.
