Ukraine has taken its dispute with Olympic authorities to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, filing an appeal on July 29 after the International Olympic Committee moved to ease restrictions on the Russian Olympic Committee. The case marks a new stage in the wider sports conflict surrounding Russia and Ukraine.
According to the filing described in the report, Ukraine argues that the IOC’s provisional reinstatement of the Russian Olympic Committee was inconsistent with the Olympic Charter. That legal challenge puts the focus on whether the governing body followed its own rules when adjusting Russia’s status.
The appeal also underlines how sports institutions remain a battleground for broader tensions between the two countries. Rather than being limited to competition schedules or athlete eligibility, the disagreement now centers on governance, recognition and the authority of international Olympic bodies.
A CAS review could become an important test of how disputes involving the IOC and national Olympic committees are handled during politically sensitive periods.
