SpaceX has agreed to start taking down the temporary gas turbines that supply part of the power for the Colossus AI data center complex tied to Elon Musk’s AI business. Under the reported timeline, the turbines will not disappear all at once, and some of the equipment could remain in place until July 2027.
The issue centers on turbines described as temporary and unpermitted. That has made the power setup a focus of attention, especially because the site is a large AI data center operation with heavy electricity demands. The agreement appears to give SpaceX time to phase out the units rather than shut them off immediately.
Based on the available details, the company has roughly about a year to begin the removal process. Even so, the final turbine may stay online for significantly longer, creating a staggered transition period as the site moves away from the temporary system.
