Detroit Lions rookie linebacker Jimmy Rolder is dealing with a leg injury after leaving Friday's practice early in Allen Park. The issue is expected to keep him out for a period of time, creating an early setback during camp.

Even with that interruption, the outlook for Rolder's first season has not completely changed. He is still viewed as a player who can get back on the field and help Detroit during his rookie year once he recovers.

For the Lions, the immediate concern is the lost practice time and how it affects Rolder's development heading into the season. Missing reps can slow a rookie's adjustment, especially at linebacker, where timing, assignments and familiarity with the defense are important.

Still, the expectation remains that Rolder can contribute in Year 1 rather than being sidelined for the entire season. If his recovery goes as hoped, Detroit could still get value from the rookie later in the year despite this early training-camp injury.
