The Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Authority has given conditional approval for the use of about 3.25 acres of land linked to Hebbal Lake for a tunnel road project. The clearance relates to BDA’s proposal and appears to move the project ahead, but only under a set of safeguards tied to the lake and its surroundings.
According to the available details, the approval is not unconditional. The authority has attached requirements covering water flow, existing structures, public access and the treatment of trees in the area. The clearance also requires compliance with directions linked to environmental oversight, including NGT-related norms.
The decision is significant because Hebbal Lake is a sensitive urban water body, and any infrastructure work around it can raise concerns about drainage patterns, ecological balance and access.
