Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday reviewed border security arrangements in Siliguri, underscoring the Centre’s push to strengthen India’s frontiers through a broader security grid. The visit focused on how technology is being used to improve monitoring and response capabilities in sensitive border areas of West Bengal.
During the review, Shah examined advanced surveillance tools and a radio-based system designed to detect breaches in border fencing. The assessment highlighted the government’s emphasis on integrating modern equipment into border management to make security operations more effective and alert authorities more quickly to potential intrusions.
Shah also said the Modi government is working on a quadrangular security grid to further fortify the borders. The phrase points to a layered approach in which multiple systems and agencies work together to improve vigilance, coordination and real-time tracking along vulnerable stretches.
Alongside the security review, the home minister laid the foundation stones for Border Security Force development projects worth more than Rs 77 crore. The projects are aimed at strengthening BSF infrastructure and support systems as part of the wider effort to upgrade border preparedness in the region.
