A second tunnel boring machine has started excavation for the rail tunnel beneath Thane Creek in Maharashtra, marking another step forward for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project. Officials said the machine began work on Saturday on one of the corridor’s most important engineering stretches.
The Thane Creek section is especially significant because it is set to become India’s first undersea tunnel for any rail corridor. That makes this part of the high-speed rail line a major milestone, both for the project itself and for large-scale transport construction in the country.
