India’s Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has intensified its campaign against unsolicited commercial communications, combining technology-led detection with tougher action against entities that breach anti-spam requirements.
During the first quarter of financial year 2026-27, TRAI acted against 1.83 lakh telecom resources and blacklisted 263 senders, according to the regulator’s enforcement update. The measures form part of a broader effort to reduce unwanted commercial messages and calls.
TRAI is also using artificial intelligence-driven systems to identify suspicious communication activity more effectively. Alongside enforcement, the regulator is seeking greater consumer participation through Do Not Disturb (DND) services.
The latest actions signal a stronger focus on accountability across commercial communications, while giving telecom users additional tools to report or limit unwanted outreach.
