Canada’s men were pushed into relegation position in the Volleyball Nations League after a straight-sets loss to Cuba on Saturday in Osaka. Cuba won 25-22, 25-21, 29-27 to hand Canada another damaging result late in the competition.
The defeat means Canada is now set to drop out of the tournament for next season. In a match where the scorelines stayed close, especially in the third set, Canada could not do enough to extend the contest or earn a result that would improve its standing.
Cuba’s sweep gave Canada little margin for error, with the final set showing how narrow the gap was on the court. Even so, losing in three sets left Canada without the lift it needed in the Volleyball Nations League standings.
The outcome marks a disappointing turn for the Canadian men, who now face the prospect of relegation from one of the sport’s top annual international events. Saturday’s result in Osaka confirmed the team’s difficult position heading into next season.
