Multiple Rafale fighter aircraft from the Indian Air Force are set to participate in Exercise Pitch Black, a major multinational air combat drill to be hosted by Australia. The exercise is scheduled to run from July 20 to August 7 and will bring together air forces from a wide group of partner nations.
Pitch Black is regarded as one of the leading international air warfare exercises, with 19 countries involved in this edition. India’s decision to deploy Rafale jets highlights the role of the aircraft in its frontline air operations and places the IAF alongside other participating forces in complex training missions.
Officials have indicated that the exercise is aimed at improving interoperability among participating air forces. The event is also expected to strengthen operational coordination and provide an opportunity to share professional knowledge, tactics and lessons from multinational flying operations.
For India, the Rafale contingent’s presence at Pitch Black underlines its continued engagement in high-end international military exercises.
