Russia's military leadership says its forces are continuing to move forward across multiple sectors of the conflict in Ukraine. The update came after Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov visited the command post of the Zapad battlegroup, according to Russian state media.
During the visit, Gerasimov was reported to have received briefings on the current operational picture and the outcome of recent combat tasks. The Russian side said he also praised the battlegroup for what it described as successes in areas tied to the Donetsk region.
The announcement fits into Moscow's broader messaging around the war, which Russia continues to describe as a special military operation launched in February 2022. Russian officials say the campaign is focused on the Donbass, while the fighting has remained part of a wider and heavily contested conflict.
Independent verification of battlefield claims remains difficult, and statements from either side are often released as part of wartime information campaigns. The latest Russian account nonetheless signals that Moscow wants to project momentum on the front lines as the conflict continues.
