Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has welcomed a new U.S. Senate sanctions proposal, saying the package launched by Senator Lindsey Graham would deal a significant blow to Russia's economy. According to Estonia's Foreign Ministry, the bill introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal has now gained the support of more than 60 senators, along with backing from the White House. That level of support marks the proposal as a serious step in the broader effort to tighten restrictions related to Russia.
The sanctions package is described as including tariffs on countries, signaling an attempt to raise the economic cost around ties that help sustain Russia. While details in the announcement were limited, the proposal appears designed to widen the pressure beyond direct sanctions and further constrain Russia's economic room for maneuver.
