Paramount and Activision’s planned live-action Call of Duty movie will take place in the Modern Warfare universe, linking the adaptation to one of the video game franchise’s most recognizable settings. The project gives the long-running shooter series a clearer cinematic direction as it moves toward theaters.
Peter Berg revealed the setting during Fanatics Fest in New York City. Berg is attached to direct the film and is also co-writing the screenplay with Taylor Sheridan, the creator known for Yellowstone and Landman.
The movie’s connection to Modern Warfare suggests the adaptation will draw from a more contemporary military backdrop rather than other branches of the wider Call of Duty brand. While additional story details have not been disclosed, the announcement helps define the tone and world the film aims to bring to the screen.
The Call of Duty movie is currently slated for release on June 30, 2028. With Paramount and Activision backing the project, the adaptation remains one of the higher-profile efforts to turn a major video game property into a theatrical feature.
