Kerala Haj and Waqf Minister N Samsudheen has asked the Union government to extend the deadline for Haj applications until at least August 15. The request comes amid concerns that delays in passport renewal could prevent some applicants from completing the process on time.
The state has also urged the Centre to allow wide-body aircraft operations from Kozhikode airport. Such permission is seen as important for improving travel arrangements for Haj pilgrims from northern Kerala, where the airport serves as a key departure point.
In addition to the deadline and flight-related requests, the minister raised the issue of refunds for GPS-enabled smartwatch devices that could not be used. The matter adds to a wider set of logistical concerns linked to the Haj process this year.
The demands highlight Kerala's push for more flexibility in applications and better travel support for pilgrims. The state government is seeking central intervention so that eligible applicants are not left out because of procedural delays or operational limitations.
