The British Open unfolded under a rare weather pattern, with warm and dry conditions replacing the more familiar mix of sun, chill and wind-driven rain often seen on links courses in the UK. That unusual setup changed the feel of the week and gave players a different test than many expect at golf’s oldest major.
Against that backdrop, Russell Henley put together another Sunday charge. The Georgia product was the bright spot among the former Bulldogs in the field, making a late-week move while others from the program were unable to build similar momentum.
The contrast stood out as scoring opportunities appeared more available than they often are during a weather-heavy Open Championship. Even so, taking advantage still required precision, and Henley seemed better able to find that rhythm as the tournament reached its final round.
For the rest of the Georgia contingent, the week was more uneven. While Henley’s finish provided a familiar closing push, the other Dawgs could not keep pace at the British Open, leaving him as the program’s main storyline in an uncommon set of conditions.
