Uber Technologies has agreed to acquire Delivery Hero in a transaction that values the German food-delivery company at $14.8bn. The planned purchase would rank among the biggest deals in the sector and would further expand Uber’s footprint in online delivery.

The companies have signed a business combination agreement, and Uber is preparing a voluntary takeover offer for Delivery Hero. While only limited deal details have been disclosed so far, the valuation alone highlights the scale of the proposed tie-up.

If the acquisition is completed, the combined business would become the largest food-delivery group outside China. That would give Uber a stronger position in a market where scale and international reach can be decisive advantages.

The agreement still needs to move through the takeover process before it becomes final. Even at this stage, the announcement points to a major shift in the global food-delivery industry as large platforms continue to pursue consolidation.
