Aeromexico plans to deploy Honeywell Aerospace’s runway safety technology across more than 100 aircraft, marking a significant planned expansion of cockpit tools aimed at reducing the risk of runway accidents. The system, known as SURF-A, is designed to help flight crews identify potential conflicts while operating on or near runways.
According to Honeywell, the technology gives pilots real-time warnings when an aircraft appears to be on a path that could lead to a collision with another plane on the runway. Those alerts are delivered through audio cues and visual cockpit indications, giving crews another layer of awareness during some of the most time-sensitive phases of flight.
SURF-A relies on GPS information along with ADS-B data to track aircraft positions and detect possible hazards. By combining those inputs, the system is intended to improve situational awareness and support faster decision-making when traffic movements create a potential danger on the ground.
The planned Aeromexico deployment highlights growing airline interest in safety systems that can help prevent runway incursions and other ground-operation incidents. For Honeywell Aerospace, the selection also underscores demand for advanced avionics that use real-time data to support pilots and strengthen operational safety.
